Fuel efficiency of fleet and environmental protection efforts recognised
CWind, a leading provider of services to the offshore wind industry, has announced today that it has won the inaugural Maritime Sustainability Award at this year’s Southampton show. Seawork added the new title, which recognises the importance of sustainable practices in the work boat sector, to its prestigious set of annual awards.
The award lauded CWind’s outstanding commitment to driving forward environmental initiatives as well as the company’s sustainable work practices. The unique mix of CWind’s fleet of workboats, with its large majority of resin composite vessels, makes the fleet considerably more fuel efficient. In an industry engaged in generating clean energy, CWind sees this as one of the contributions the company can make to that wider goal.
The fleet’s fuel efficiency has allowed CWind to not only offer significant cost savings to its clients, but has also lowered the overall carbon footprint of the company and the projects it has supported since launch. Over the course of a three month assignment, the carbon reduction achieved through fuel efficiency equates to up to 687tCO2 for CWind’s clients, equal to the carbon dioxide released by 172 return flights to Sydney, Australia from the United Kingdom.
CWind’s introduction of the ‘Todo’ system for offshore refuelling received special mention in the citation. The system, more commonly used in Formula One racing as it withstands high pressure and allows for faster refuelling, was originally introduced by the company to service a wind farm in Germany. It is a completely safe, drip-proof fuel transfer system and includes an automatic shut-down valve.
Lee Andrews, Managing Director CWind commented: “We’re delighted to accept this award as sustainability and environmental protection are a must in our eyes. As an industry, we are supporting the emission reduction goals of the countries where we operate, ensuring we reduce emissions where we can and protecting the environment at all times are important goals for us all. I know I speak on behalf of whole team at CWind when I say we’re extremely proud of this award.”
