Meet Maisie, one of our business administration apprentices

What inspired you to choose this specific apprenticeship program?

Before I started this apprenticeship, I was training to become a chef at Westminster College however after I completed the first year, I knew that path wasn’t for me. I saw this apprenticeship being advertised on Indeed and I applied, even though it was a job I have never done before but I am glad I chose this apprenticeship as I am learning new skills.

How did you first learn about this career path, and what attracted you to it?

I did a lot of research about the Business Admin career path and I thought it would be a great opportunity to learn new skills.

What skills or interests did you have that made you feel this career path was the right fit?

I have ran my own home business since I was 14, so I have always loved learning about businesses and how they work. I enjoy using numbers and spreadsheets.

What does a typical day in the life of a Business Admin involve at Global Marine Group?

To start my day I would sign onto Teams, check my emails and create a To Do List for the day as this helps me stay on track of all the tasks I need to complete. On Wednesdays we have a weekly minutes meeting where we review all the orders that we have and discuss any problems or questions.

What do you love most about your role at Global Marine Group?

What I love most about Global Marine Group is the amount of supportive people that I work with which creates a positive environment for everyone to work in. I love that Global Marine Group are teaching me new skills every day and challenging me.

What advice would you give someone who would want to pursue a career in Business Admin?

To learn as much as you can and ask questions because when I have asked questions I have learnt more knowledge about the job.

Did you consider any other career paths or apprenticeships before deciding on this one? If so, what made you choose this one?

Yes, I was going to complete my Professional Chef Level 2, however when reading about this job role, I realised how much knowledge I will have learnt after completing this qualification.

How does this apprenticeship align with your long-term career goals?

I would like to have my own successful business one say so this apprenticeship is teaching me a lot of skills and knowledge about how a business runs.

What aspects of this career excite or motivate you the most?

Having a career in business excites me because of the amount of opportunity there is around the world. People who start from the bottom and now have million pound businesses motivates me, because the amount of effort you put in shows in the end result.

How do you feel this apprenticeship will prepare you for the challenges in your chosen field?

After completing this apprenticeship and having the qualification on my CV, I am hoping in the future I can work as a PA for a successful company.

Was there any particular advice or research that helped your choice in pursuing this apprenticeship?

Its important to learn new skills even though its out of your comfort zone.

How do you feel this apprenticeship will prepare you for the challenges in your chosen field?

I think this apprenticeship will prepare me very well for the challenges in my chosen field.
