Meet Tamera, one of our business administration apprentices

What inspired you to choose this specific apprenticeship program?

I took Art, Photography and textiles in college with an aim of a creative Job however I preferred it as more of a hobby and wanted a job that provided more stability. I found that a lot of jobs require you to have some sort of experience or qualifications for the roles you’re applying for so the business admin apprenticeship was an ideal start at getting my foot in the door, as it provided me with training whilst working.

How did you first learn about this career path, and what attracted you to it?

I learnt about this career path through Peta which is an apprenticeship training centre based in Portsmouth. What attracted me to it was the hands-on experience you’re able to receive and applying it to real-life scenarios. Another perk is obviously being able to earn money whilst learning skills that I can use throughout my career.

What skills or interests did you have that made you feel this career path was the right fit?

As I mentioned before I have always liked problem solving, fixing things, learning how things work and practical working.

What does a typical day in the life of a Business Admin Apprentice involve at Global Marine Group?

Before working at Global Marine Group, I had a part-time retail job. From this I gained customer service skills, communications skills, problem solving and time management. And also Teamwork. All of which have been transferable to this job role.

What do you love most about your role at Global Marine Group?

The people I work with help to make the job even more enjoyable. Also, no day is the same and you’re always learning something new.

What advice would you give someone who would want to pursue a career in Business Admin?

Take full advantage of all the training opportunities offered to you.

I started on the level 3 business administration apprenticeship and now I’m currently doing a CIPS level 3 in procurement and supply.

How does this apprenticeship align with your long-term career goals?

I wanted a job where there was room to progress and move upwards. Doing an apprenticeship allows you to get extra qualifications that may open up even more opportunities.

How do you see this apprenticeship helping you grow personally and professionally?

My confidence has grown so much over the past 5 years of working at Global Marine Group, the business admin apprenticeship helped me get a good foot in the door and gave me a basic understanding of the job. The CIPS apprenticeship is helping to refine skills and knowledge for the role of buyer and planner.
