Meet Tolga, one of our engineering apprentices

What inspired you to choose this specific apprenticeship program?
I enrolled into a college for an engineering course, then Global Marine offered me a position in engineering, which was very attractive as it is a unique type of engineering that will be for the future.
How did you first learn about this career path, and what attracted you to it?
I looked up engineering apprenticeships in my local area and came across Global Marine. I did some research on the company and discovered it offered a unique and interesting field in engineering.
What skills or interests did you have that made you feel this career path was the right fit?
My dad used to be a subsea engineer and from what he explained to me what was involved, it was definitely of interest to me and I wanted to know more about it and I have seen first-hand the machines and wiring my dad works with and I wanted to learn more about it myself.

What does a typical day in the life of a Engineering Apprentice involve at Global Marine Group?
I learn new skills from various workers in the company and from that, I have been able to independently do jobs such as making cable ends for joints, doing cable testing with other people, learning from mentors/ teachers, seeing how the jointing process happens on ship and starting to teach my learnt techniques down to new apprentices.
What do you love most about your role at Global Marine Group?
That it is a very happy environment to do work in and that I am learning many different aspects of the job, I feel welcome at Global Marine because the company cares about the staff, fellow workers are helpful and have the patience to teach you when you are unsure of something.
What advice would you give someone who would want to pursue a career in Engineering?
Make sure you have chosen the right career path and that you enjoy it and show interest and enthusiasm to learn everyday.
